Helping Hands Trade School healthcare training courses offers ongoing classes in the Maine Healthcare industry. These healthcare courses are designed for both entry-level positions and advanced training in specific occupations.

Personal Support Specialist (PSS)

A comprehensive course of instruction designed to cover aspects of personal care including: body mechanics, environmental safety, client transfers and ambulation, universal precautions, nutrition and homemaking. Successful completion of the PSS – I course qualifies an individual to provide direct care to consumers in Assisted Living Facilities, Residential Care Facilities Adult Day Care Programs, and Home Care settings. Students completing the PSS – I course and starting a CNA training program within two years, may receive credit for Modules 1 – 6 of the CNA training course. 50 Hr. ($295)

Helping Hands Course ListCertified Nursing Assistant Training (CNA)

A course leading to State Certification, which includes 90 hours of theory and 70/20 hours of clinical/laboratory experience utilizing the prescribed curriculum approved by the Maine State Board of Nursing. ($1050)

Certified Medication Aide Training (CNA-M)

A standardized, 120-hour medication course approved by the Maine State Board of Nursing, which provides the basis of understanding needed for CNAs to administer medications accurately and safely. The course is designed to teach experienced CNAs how to administer non-injectable medications to patients who are 14 years of ago and older under the direct supervision of a licensed registered nurse in long term care facilities and state mental health facilities. ($1500

Certified Residential Medication Aide Training (CRMA)

A 40-hour course designed to teach Residential Care Workers to administer selected non-injectable medications in a Licensed Residential Care or Group Home setting. The course provides the basic understanding needed to administer medications and to document safely and accurately. ($295)

Phlebotomy in Central MainePhlebotomy Training

A 150 hour course which includes instruction of the proper techniques in performing venipuncture and capillary puncture and the collection of blood specimens for the purpose of laboratory analysis. The student will develop knowledge of infection control and safety procedures, understand basic anatomy and the physiology of body systems. Total lab/clinical time is 100 hours. Candidates must be at least eighteen years of age, earned a High School diploma or GED and will be required to have a health assessment, which will include but not limited to a recent TB screen and hepatitis B vaccination before the start of the clinical portion of this course. ($1750)

Medical Billing Specialist Training

The Medical Billing Specialist program (50 hour) will train students the techniques in becoming a Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS) in order to seek employment in a hospital or medical facility.  Upon successful completion of the classroom hours students may sit for the American Association of Healthcare Administration Management (AAHAM) national certification exam.  The initial testing cost is included in the program tuition.  ($750)

Dental School in Central MaineDental Assistant Training

This is a 120-hour course (90 classroom/laboratory hours and 30 clinical hours in a dental office) is designed to give students quality education and training in the classroom and dental office for a rewarding career as a dental assistant.
Classroom education will include explanations and hands-on training in dental fields: chair-side assisting, dental laboratory and techniques, administrative, operative procedures and instruments, OSHA and so much more.
Students will be prepared with the knowledge to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board’s Radiation Health & Safety Exam which is required to apply for a Maine Radiographer license.Students will also receive knowledge through explanation and demonstration to apply and sit for the DANB’s Infection Control Exam that is also required by DANB to become a Certified Dental Assistant. This course includes CPR/BLS and First Aid certification. ($1400)

Certified Residential Medical Aide (8 Hour) Refresher

This is to provide the CRMA with the required 8-hour biennial refresher course for recertification as mandated by Sec. 5110.4 of the regulations governing the licensing and functioning of assisted living facilities. ($75)
